Speakers presentations 2006
The following speakers made presentations at the October 2006 INSG Meetings, which
was held in Lisbon, Portugal:
Ms. Vanessa Davidson
of CRU spoke on nickel laterite and sulphide mine projects
around the world, and looked at the implications for the likely supply/demand
balance in the medium term.
Mr. Peter Kaumanns
of the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) presented the latest developments
in stainless steel production and usage.
Mr. Masanori Ohyama,
Nickel Sales and Raw Materials, Sumitomo Metal Mining, examining
factors affecting nickel supply and demand both in Japan and globally.
Mr. Volker Pawlitzki,
ELG Haniel GmbH, on the current situation and likely future trends in the
stainless steel scrap market.
Mr. Peter Cranfield,
Consultant, who analysed the wide range of issues that could influence the nickel market
in the medium to long term.
Mr. Jean-Pol Wiaux,
RECHARGE, reviewed the impact of the new European Batteries directive
on nickel-based battery technology, and reported on trends in this important downstream
sector.
Mr. Hugo Waeterschoot,
Secretary General of the European Nickel Industry
Association elaborated on how the nickel industry is preparing for the challenges from the
introduction of REACH, the Globally Harmonized System, and the upcoming assessment of nickel
in the framework of the OECD High Production Volume Program.
Mr. Sven F. Tollin,
Chief Statistician of the INSG, general presentation of the
International Lead & Zinc Study Group,
International Nickel Study Group and the
International Copper Study Group,
at the "China (Western) Nonferrous Mining Forum 2006", which was held in Huhhot,
China, 22-25 August 2006.
The following speakers made presentations at the April 2006 INSG meeting, which
was held in Lisbon, Portugal:
Mr. Bian Gang, Deputy Director General of China Nonferrous Metals Industry
Association, spoke about the Chinese nickel market and the country’s involvement in
international nickel development projects.
Mr. Francois Sauvage of Eramet informed delegates about a new initiative to promote
nickel trade liberalization from a European industry perspective.
Mr. Stephane Chorlet Marketing Manager,
Eramet, reviewed the main factors affecting nickel supply and demand, while
Mr. Volker Pawlitzki,
ELG Haniel GmbH, spoke on the current situation and likely future trends in the global
stainless steel scrap market. On behalf of International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF),
the Chief Statistician presented the latest developments in stainless steel production
and usage.
Ms. Barbara Reck, Yale University,
provided the first results of an extensive material flow analysis for nickel.
Mr. Kunitomo,
Director General of the Metal Strategic Group of the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National
Corporation (JOGMEG), provided an overview of the Japanese legislation on batteries
recycling.
Mr. Stephen Barnett, President
of the Nickel Institute, made a presentation on the Institute’s main activities and updated
the participants on the industry concerns related to the EU Nickel Risk Assessment and the
EU New Chemical Policy, REACH.
