bullet  Mr. Sven F. Tollin, Chief Statistician of the INSG, presentation at the "2007 China International Nickel and Cobalt Industry Forum", which was held in Ningbo, China P.R., 7-9 November 2007.



bullet  The International Copper Study Group, International Lead & Zinc Study Group and International Nickel Study Group held a Joint Recycling Seminar, which took place in Lisbon, Portugal in October 2007. The following presentations explaining the work of the Study Groups and industry associations on improving recycling statistical data were made:

Mr. Raymond Sempels (IZA-Europe) provided an introductory overview of the methodology used to estimate the Recycling Efficiency Rate (RER).

Mr. Bruce McKean (Nickel Institute) explained the work being undertaken on recycling rates by the international nickel industry.



bullet  The following speakers made presentations at the October 2007 Meetings of the INSG, which was held in Lisbon, Portugal:

Mr. Magnus Ericsson of the Raw Materials Group, Sweden, gave a presentation on trends in investment in the world nickel industry.

Mr. Peter Kaumanns of the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), Belgium, presented the latest developments in stainless steel production and summarized the effects of the nickel price level and volatility on the industry.

Mr. David Wilson of Norilsk, UK, made a presentation on global nickel supply & demand.

Mr. Benno Kratz of ELG, Germany, spoke on the latest developments in the world stainless steel scrap market.

Mr. Constantine Thanasoulas, Chief Executive Officer of LARCO, provided an excellent overview of the company’s nickel activities in Greece.

Mr. Michel Vander Straeten, Manager EU Policy of the European Nickel Industry Association, briefed the meeting on the main environmental, health and safety (EHS) issues that are likely to affect European nickel production and usage over the medium term. He briefed the Study Group on the nickel industry’s preparations for risk reduction, REACH (the EU’s new chemicals policy), and the EU’s emerging sustainability agenda.

Mr. Ian Burrell, INSG Head of Environment and Economics, summarized progress in advancing the Study Group’s work in collaboration with industry partners on estimating the recycling efficiency rate for nickel.



bullet  Mr. Paul White, Head of Statistics and Forecasting of the International Lead & Zinc Study Group, presentation at the "International Seminar on Mining Investment Policy for Base Metals in Southern Africa", which was held in Windhoek, Namibia, 3-7 June 2007.



bullet  The following speakers made presentations at the International Copper Study Group, International Lead & Zinc Study Group and International Nickel Study Group Joint Environmental and Economic Commitee's Meeting, which was held in Lisbon, Portugal in May 2007:

Ms. Helen Clarke of the Australian Government and Dr. Ben Davies of ICMM were invited to discuss metals stewardship from a government and an industry perspective.

Mr. Hugo Waeterschoot, Director, European Nickel Industry Association (ENIA), was invited to share his experiences from a metals perspective regarding the Globally Harmonized System, including possible unintended consequences of the new system.



bullet  The following speakers made presentations at the May 2007 INSG Meetings, which was held in Lisbon, Portugal:

Mr. Heinz H. Pariser of Heinz H. Pariser Alloy Metals & Steel Market Research spoke on the current situation and likely future trends in the stainless steel scrap market.

Dr. Carlos Nogueira da Costa Junior, Deputy Secretary of Geology, Mining and Mineral Processing of the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy, and Dr. Jones Belther, Director of Votorantin Metais, provided an update on Geology and Mining in Brazil and Overview of the Nickel Sector in Brazil.

Mr. Jim Lennon of Macquarie Research made a presentation on the new Chinese product - Ferro Nickel/Pig Iron - and possible market implications for the likely supply/demand balance in the short and medium term.

Mr. Heinz H. Pariser of Heinz H. Pariser Alloy Metals & Steel Market Research presented the latest developments in stainless steel production and possible changes in the nickel market due to the current nickel price level.

Mr. Sven Arvidsson of the Geological Survey of Sweden gave an overview of nickel in Sweden.

Mr. Stephen Barnett, President of the Nickel Institute, elaborated on how the nickel industry is preparing for the challenges from the introduction of REACH, the Globally Harmonized System, and the consideration of the Risk Assessment of Nickel in the framework of the OECD High Production Volume Program.

Mr. Sven F. Tollin, Chief Statistician of the INSG, review of stainless steel scrap trade statistics.

Mr. Dirk Kingma, Economist of the INSG, presented the initial results of the study on nickel use in stainless steel production.

Mr. Dirk Kingma, Economist of the INSG, reviewed some updates of the INSG reclycling model and presented some model estimates.
